A Triple Blue Heron Landing Morning

It's another gorgeous day in Central North Carolina. Clear blue-sky warm (84) and puffy clouds. I drove over to do my morning 2-mile walk and check the progress on Blue Heron's Landing.  The masons were there working and told me they were greeted by Three Blue Herons first thing this morning. It must have been a beautiful sight. I cannot wait to wake up to them out the window in the morning.

There’s been much progress since I last posted. The excavators did a beautiful job dig and filling the footers. I will post pictures before I close today’s blog.

Jack and I went over and adored the place this weekend a few times. Saturday night we took our neighbors Jim and Linda over for a tour. It was fun to be there in the evening. Earlier that evening another neighbor informed all of us the tree guys working at her house killed the biggest water moccasin they have ever seen in NC. Just what I did not want to hear! EEEEEKKK! Lani and snakes are not a great combo. Linda keeps telling me she is worried about me and snakes……. Yeyah me too!!

We are waiting for the power company to get us temporary power at the site. The field engineer for our site is not the fastest on the crew.  Hoping it will get done this week before the holiday but I have big doubts.

The plan is for the masons to finish and the gravel to be shoveled in tomorrow. Foundation Inspection Wednesday and framers start Thursday. Keep your fingers crossed that things keep moving.

Here are a few of the latest pictures.

Signing off for now. Will blog on the framing hopefully as it starts on Thursday. Happy Monday all hope it is as beautiful where you are as it is here.

Day One - Breaking Ground

Well it's one day late but that's ok. We are just thrilled to see the action. I got up made smoothies and lattes and flew out the door. I arrived at Blue Heron's Landing at 7:17am just behind the excavator and his Bobcat trailer.  Got out chatted a minute and said please continue - I am here to watch not stop you from working. I stayed to watch the first few holes I have posted the video above.

I came home just after 8:30 to take care of a new friend Saber another Blue Merle Aussie that looks like our old Joshua! Same mellow personality. One blue eye and one brown, a beautiful dog! Stayed home until noon and headed back to the construction site to check on progress.

Went back to find all holes dug and they were getting ready for the concrete truck. He came I took some more pictures and came home.

Jack came home from work and we went to see how the work looked for Day One at Blue Heron's Landing. Looks great - ready now to start the foundation. Will see what the schedule looks like and will update and share pictures of that event.

Great day and so the project begins. Tired and not very thoughtful tonight so I will get more detailed tomorrow. I may start a separate post of all of my product searches.

nighty night.

We begin tomorrow

I want to begin to blog my experience in the new construction of my husband Jack and I's dream home now known as "Heron's Landing". The name comes from the bird that flew off the property the day we settled and became the property owners. He continues to be there every day through spring and this summer. I'm not sure if he is here in winter or not. I hope he stays and continues to consider Heron's Landing his home. Not sure how he will feel about all of the noise on the property. On to the building blog.

The land was cleared back in May with the trees taken down mulched to help keep the site access keeping the mud down and dirt from erosion.

So as we start this project I want you to know what I have done for a smoother process. Building projects are known to drag with the owners not being able to make decisions. Types of problem causing stop or slowing are deciding on type of roof, siding windows appliances, cabinets, lighting, flooring, plumbing fixtures and more.

As we start we have chosen everything for this house but the tile for bathrooms and firm color choices for walls. I will make the tile decisions shortly but the color choice will wait for much later when the walls, electric and more are complete. I want to be in the house at different times with the colors to see what they look like. I think I will be using Benjamin Moore paint and have chosen candidates that I will choose from. The front door color will be a light shade of blue. Carolina Blue? Not sure but it's possible. Sorry Duke and Maryland friends but it coordinates well with the interior and I love the color. It is a very relaxing color to me reminiscent of my love of the Atlantic Ocean.

So on with what's happening. Tomorrow morning June 23, 2014 at 0700 the subcontractor will commence to dig the footings! I thought I might wait until Noon to go see the progress but as I write this I think both of us should be there for the first shovel hitting the dirt. I will post pictures of what it looks like now and more as we progress with the build. Hope you enjoy this and I don't bore you with details.  I will as I go through this put notes about choices I have made with pictures.

My last update for the day. Jack, the dogs and I went to Blue Heron's Landing and as we pulled in our resident Blue Heron was doing a fly-by. He whooshed by and headed down to the creek where their nests are. We played frisbee with Taylor, checked on the fruit trees to find the enemy Japanese Beetles had helped themselves to the leaves of the peach tree and most of the apple trees. I have to look up some enviro friendly pest management to spray them with. Any suggestions are welcome.
We went back to our Lowe's plastic adirondack chairs to enjoy the peace and quiet and our friend Mr. Heron did another fly-by. Thought he would land this time but he did not. I took some pics of the surveyor's flag layout and thought I would post s when I go tomorrow we see how they have used them to set up for footings.

That's it for Sunday - hope everyone has enjoyed their weekend. Tomorrow is out big day, can't wait!
